| An overview of Actech
Steel Panel System for Residential and Commercial Use
General Information and Construction Specs
on Actech Panels Manufactured by Alternative Construction Technologies,
Inc.
The Actech panel is rectangular made up of 26-gauge steel on each side (embossed for strength). This steel envelope is then injected with a Class A polyurethane foam. The framed panels are fed thru a pressure conveyor at the factory to bind the envelope with the foam and control size. The panels come in two feet widths with a patented interlocking system. The interlocking system constructed of 20-gauge steel, serves as a stiffener, and affords the panels their remarkable strength. The panels can be manufactured in lengths up to 48 feet in height.
The Actech panel, as demonstrated on the CD, is hurricane and tornado resistant. The panels have been used to construct many homes on the coast in Florida due to its' resistance to high winds and flying debris which may impact homes during a hurricane.
To visualize the strength of the Actech panel vs. concrete block or a plywood product, please review the cd and note the following:
- Reinforced concrete block when impacted by a 35 mph missile is perforated to the steel reinforcement.
- Particle pressed board when impacted by the 35 mph missile exhibits a large hole thru the material.
- Aluminum shutters when impacted by a 35 mph missile is indented to such a degree that the windows are shattered.
- The Actech panel when impacted by the same 35 mph missile absorbs the impact, which is distributed across the panels. The panels are not perforated; they do not crumble. The result of this impact is a small dent.
- Tornado impact tests were performed at Texas Tech Wind Energy Research Center using a 15 lb 2 x 4 at an average speed of 105 mph.
- Concrete block was pulverized and crumbled.
- Actech panel showed a small amount of deflection in the steel.
In addition to the durability and wind resistance, the Actech panel and roof system provides a 24-R rating for energy efficiency. It has been used not only as described above on coastal areas where hurricanes are prevalent, but is a suitable material for low-income housing developments and projects. It is cost effective when a user realizes that the metal skin can be painted or sprayed with a stucco type elastomeric finish. In addition, the panel's structural strength is such that 2x4's and 2x6's are not needed around the perimeter of the building. Labor is cut down from 6 to 8 weeks to approximately 10 working days to frame a 2,000 ft. home. The financial savings on labor as well as construction interest alone make using the Actech panel even more cost effective.
Note any exterior product such as brick, stucco, red wood, cedar, hardee, etc. may be used for the exterior finish that the user desires. For commercial developers/builders, the Actech panel utilizes only 3 inches of the foundation which increases the inside square footage. The speed of the system will allow retailers to begin there cash flow weeks ahead of conventional building products. The product is non-combustible, which lowers the insurance premiums. |
